I grew up very poor in Houston's inner city, often not eating for days at a time. I was homeless and completely on my own at 16, and didn't start college until I was 40. I earned a BA in English with a creative writing minor, and published short stories in literary journals like The Ampersand Review, The Bayou Review and others. I was the winner of the 2012 Fabian Worsham Creative Writing Prize. I'm also a certified sommelier, fitness enthusiast, and lover of great literature. My writing is mostly personal in nature, detailing my journey, good and bad, in the most honest way I can manage. I've also published some fiction here, as well as work on fitness and wine.
