I certainly agree there is no need to actually destroy art. Removing a film such as Gone With the Wind from a cable channel is not a destruction. Each case should be looked at individually. I went to the public viewing of George Floyd's body and I went to the Justice for Vanessa Guillen rally last week. As a black man, seeing even the image of Al Jolson in black face fills me with some mixture of shame and sorrow, it makes you feel dirty. But I would not equate old footage of Jimmy Fallon doing a skit in some semblance of blackface, with Al Jolson. The content of the skit does not convey the same message, and Fallon is more of a young man who didn't know enough to know better. The passage of time does not mandate the forgiveness of an offence such as the slave trade. It was never right. No one should have to tell you it's wrong to rob entire generations of even a single day of freedom. I did enjoy your piece and look forward to more in the future.
