I really enjoyed reading this! I have an English degree and as a writer my background is in literary fiction, so most of the writing I've come across in my week of being on Medium will take some getting used to for me. This is maybe my favorite thing I've read on Medium so far. I chose to buy my little house in a traditionally black neighborhood because I think it's important for black people to do so. But I certainly understand the points you make here. I grew up with a very diverse group of friends, and it was obvious that most of the white people I've known over the years expect a black friend to water himself down ethnically so that he might be an acceptable black friend. My friends list shows the ravages of having never been on board with this way of thinking. Great piece! Clapped and followed.
