I've never gotten this question from a writer. Writers are readers, and as readers they know what good writing is. They also know what bad writing is. When you click on an article on Medium because you liked the topic and the title, but a couple of paragraphs in you stop reading even though you were interested in the topic, it's usually because the writing wasn't very good. Writing is an art, and not everyone can do it. That's just the truth.
